John Marshall SAS is the LAUSD demonstration site that has received the SAS designation for its exemplary Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) implementation. By providing high-quality differentiated instruction with an emphasis on depth, complexity, acceleration and novelty, JMHS SAS program offers high-level academic services that meet the unique educational needs of 9–12 gifted learners, identified in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative and Leadership Ability categories or verified based on test scores and/or critical thinking/achievement.

Required criteria to apply for Schools for Advanced Studies:

• Be identified as gifted by LAUSD in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative, or Leadership Ability Category OR

• Has scored in the Standard Exceede d range on the SBAC or have a national percentile score of 85 or above in both reading and math on an achievement test (most recent year only) OR

• Be verified as eligible by the current school of attendance as meeting the four critical thinking/problem solving skills criterion AND

• Reside within L.A. Unified boundaries at the time of application and while participating in the program If you are JMHS Resident, you do not need to apply through the e -Choices to be admitted into JMHS SAS. Students residing within the JMHS boundaries who meet SAS eligibility criteria must be placed in the JMHS site’s SAS program. If you have questions, contact Mrs. Novik, SAS

NEW - Online 2020-21 Pre-Enrollment Portal for Resident Students

L.A. Unified released a new online 2020-21 pre-enrollment portal for parents to register new students at our school at Enroll Lausd Net.

This portal allows parents to register for enrollment and upload required documentation, while enabling school staff to access this information in a safe and secure method.

A parent guide is available now to support parents with the new system.

 

Marshall Residents: interested in applying to SAS (School For Advanced Studies) need to provide:

 

Verification of residency

- utility service contract, bills or payment receipts (e.g., gas, water, electricity)

- property tax payment receipt

- rental/lease agreement or current rental receipt with address of property on        receipt

- official government mail (e.g., CalWORKs, Social Security, MediCal)

- current pay stub

- voter registration

 

Verification of SAS eligibility

(1) identification of being gifted  or   

(2) SBAC scores (exceed the standard in both, English and Math)  or 

(3) qualification under 4 critical thinking skills criteria.

Who We Are

FRIENDS OF MARSHALL SAS is a nonprofit volunteer organization of concerned and enthusiastic parents dedicated to raising funds in support of the educational activity of the School for Advanced Studies (SAS) program at John Marshall High School.

We collaborate with parents, faculty, and students who support the enrichment of students with knowledge, experience, citizenship, character, achievement and leadership qualities.

Our mission recognizes that the School of Advanced Studies at John Marshall High School provides students with an exemplary college-prep curriculum and the guidance of a highly dedicated faculty team in an urban public school setting.
